Kata "Lucifer" digunakan oleh St. Jerome 3 kali dalam terjemahannya, yaitu Alkitab berbahasa latin versi Vulgata. Untuk Perjanjian Lama (PL) penerjemahannya berasal dari Septuaginta (Alkitab Perjanjian Lama terjemahan bahasa Yunani) pada abad ke-4 Masehi, kata "Lucifer" 2 kali kita temukan dalam PL Vulgata . Kita lihat ayat-ayatnya sbb :
* Ayub 11:17 LAI TB, Kehidupanmu akan menjadi lebih cemerlang dari pada siang hari, kegelapan akan menjadi terang seperti pagi hari (LUCIFER, Vulgata).

Kata εωσφορος - heôsphoros, berasal dari kata : εως - heos berarti "hingga", "sampai";dan kata φωσφορος - phôsphoros berarti "cahaya pagi/ pembawa cahaya"

Kata "Lucifer" dalam Vulgata adalah terjemahan dari kata Yunani εωσφορος - heôsphoros. Kata "Lucifer" baru dikenal pada abad 4 Masehi, sebelumnya kata ini tidak pernah dikenal ada dalam "Kitab Suci Perjanjian Lama" bahasa asli Ibrani, Aram, maupun Yunani (Septuaginta)
Dalam Perjanjian Baru, St. Jerome sekali lagi menggunakan kata "lucifer" :

Kata "Lucifer" dalam Vulgata adalah terjemahan dari kata Yunani φωσφορος - phôsphoros.
Dalam "tafsiran" yang lazim beredar pada kalangan "Kristen barat", hanya dalam Yesaya 14:12 kata "LUCIFER" ditafsirkan sebagai nama Malaikat yang jatuh yang kemudian disinonimkan sebagai nama "Iblis". Sedangkan Ayub 11:17 dan 2 Petrus 1:19 kata "lucifer" tidak dimaknakan sebagai nama Iblis dengan menimbang konteks ayatnya. Bahkan khusus pada 2 Petrus 1:19 lebih "ditafsirkan" sebagai figur Yesus Kristus dengan mengacu ayat-ayat lain yang melambangkan Yesus Kristus sebagai "sumber cahaya" misalnya dalam Lukas 1:78, Wahyu 22:16, Efesus 5:14.
Benarkah kata "φωσφορος – phôsphoros", yang diterjemahkan oleh St. Jerome harus diterjemahkan sebagai "Iblis" saja?.
Kita sama-sama mengetahui bahwa istilah nama "lucifer" diterapkan kepada sosok Iblis/ Malaikat yang memberontak hanyalah produk tafsir saja. Orang Yahudi (kalangan Yudaisme) tidak menganggapnya demikian. Kata "HEYLEL" yang diterjemahkan εωσφορος - heôsphoros dalam LXX dan yang kemudian diterjemahkan "lucifer" oleh St. Jerome) dalam Yesaya 14:12 itu bukan iblis. Dan terbukti ada banyak orang bernama yang diambil dari arti/kata הֵילֵל - HEYLEL ini, kalau kata tsb bermakna "setan/ iblis", saya yakin tidak akan ada orang-tua yang akan menamakan anaknya seperti itu.
Sekarang, kita lihat bagaimana kalangan Yahudi memandang nama "HEYLEL" yang diterjemahkan "LUCIFER" ini :

Kedua situs Yahudi diatas merujuk kata הילל - HEYLEL/ HEILEL, he - yod - lamed - lamed, "sinonim" dengan הלל - HILEL/ HILLEL, he - lamed - lamed. Dua kata ini berasal dari kata הלל - HALAL, to praise.
Kita lihat beberapa yang nama-nama orang terkenal yang diambil dari kata הֵילֵל - HEYLEL :
- Aktor cilik (sekarang udah gede) "Haley Joel Osment" yang main di film THE SIXTH SENSE, AI.
- Ilmuwan "Edmund Halley" penemu Comet Halley.
- Penyanyi neo-classic "Hayley Westenra"
- Rabbi Hillel (30 BC - 9 AD), pengajar dan ahli Taurat yang terkenal sebelum era Yesus Kristus, baca di http://rabbihillel.com/
- Dll.
Dengan demikian kita dapat mengerti "LUCIFER" sebagai dengan Iblis hanyalah produk dari tafsir tepatnya tafsir yang berasal dari kalangan Kristen "barat". "Tafsir" bisa saja berbeda-beda, tidak semuanya memandang "Lucifer" dalam Yesaya 14:12 adalah nama Iblis. Dan dengan menimbang 2 Petrus 1:19 maupun Ayub 11:17, kata "LUCIFER" tidak bermakna sebagai malaikat yang jatuh atau "nama penghulu Setan/ Iblis". Orang Yahudi punya istilah sendiri yaitu סמאל - SAMAEL ini dicatat dalam kitab mereka Talmud & Midrasy. Mereka tidak berpendirian pada Alkitab versi Latin Vulgata atau KJV dan "tafsirannya".
